Dr. Paul Acquah
Dr. Paul Acquah served two four-year terms as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, from 2001-2009, and was Chairman of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of ECOWAS Member States from 2005-2008. During his tenure, Dr. Acquah was repeatedly recognized as African Central Bank Governor of the Year by a number of institutions and leading financial publications, including: the IMF/World Bank's Annual Meetings Daily, the Bankers magazine, African Economy magazine, and the African Banker Awards. Before joining the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Acquah was Deputy Director in the African Department of the International Monetary Fund, leading negotiating missions to several African countries and regional consultations with the Banque des Etats de l'Afrique Centrale.
Dr. Acquah has been a member of the Principles Consulting Group for the Principles of Stable Capital Flows and a member of the Advisory Group of the Emerging Markets Forum, and has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including Member of the Order of the Star of Ghana, Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana), and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana, Legon. Dr.Acquah holds a BSc (Hon) in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon, a MA in Economics from Yale University, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Ishmael Yamson
Mr. Ishmael Yamson is non-executive Chairman of both Unilever Ghana and Standard Chartered Bank, Ghana. Mr. Yamson was the CEO and Chairman of Unilever Ghana for 18 years and during his tenure transformed Unilever from a conglomerate into a focused fast moving consumer goods company. Prior to becoming CEO, Mr. Yamson spent 20 years working in senior management of Unilever companies in the UK, Holland and Africa, holding positions including Chief Executive of Ghana Textile Printing/Juapong Textiles and of Gailey & Roberts in Tanzania, and Marketing Executive for the Kumasi Brewery and for Bird's Eye Walls in the UK.
Mr. Yamson is a founding and council member of the Centre for Policy Analysis, a founding member and President of the Private Enterprise Foundation, and is a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the President of the Republic of Ghana. Mr. Yamson previously served as Chairman of the Governance Committee of the Commonwealth Business Council, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and President of the Ghana Employers' Association. Mr. Yamson has received numerous awards and honours, including the Order of the Volta (Civil Division), Companion of the Order of the Volta and is a Fellow of both the Ghana Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Management. Mr. Yamson has a BSc in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
